Gravert's Apple Basket Orchard | An annual Smith family tradition in Sabula, Iowa

The first time we went to Gravert’s Apple Orchard was 4 years ago when my first born was only a year old. We’ve made it a point to go every year since then and it’s something we all really look forward to! This was the first time both of our kids were able to carry their own little baskets and have some independence picking their own apples in the orchard. Not that we didn’t hear “my legs are tired…will you carry my bucket??…will you just carry me AND my bucket??” a few times, but mostly they just had a blast and loved being outside!

We also grabbed some of their Root beer made with can sugar and Wisconsin honey (delish!) and visited with the friendly animals. It’s such a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon with the family! Not to mention…their apples make the BEST apple pie! It’s also the only time I every bake, so that may be part of why all my guys love this fun little family tradition!

If you haven’t been to Gravert’s yet, definitely check your calendar and make some plans to get there before the season ends! Visit their website for their availability, hours & directions - http://www.gravertorchard.com

Wiersema Family | A late Summer family session by the Mississippi River in Clinton, Iowa

I was so looking forward to this family session! It was awhile ago that Alesha first contacted me about doing family photos, and we finally made it happen by the river on the most beautiful September evening! Brantley is 3 (but almost 4!) and he is such a character! We’ve actually had a playdate in the past with my kiddos and he’s just the sweetest boy, so smart and funny and totally willing to pee outside if the urge strikes (true story lol). I’m so happy with how their photos are turning out and I hope they love them as much as I do.

Baby Ketch Maternity Sneak Peek

I love, love LOVE doing the Baby First Year plan and am super excited to meet baby Ketch in just a couple months! Her parents did amazing at their maternity session!

Since they live in Illinois and I’m in Clinton, Iowa we met in the middle and did their photos right by the Mississippi River in Fulton, IL and some inside Heritage Canyon. While the canyon is always awesome, it was pretty muddy so we didn’t fully explore this time. That’ll happen in March! We weren’t worried though, there were plenty of opportunities for great photos, as you can see below!

If you’re thinking about doing maternity pictures, just know you can do them any time of the year and document this special time! :)
