A Re-Branding Story for this Throwback Thursday Blog with Monica & Dave

Finding our voice as entrepreneurs can be a challenge. There is so much more that goes into a photography business than just taking pretty pictures. One of those things is developing a brand. This is something I hadn’t thought much about until my off-season the Winter of 2017-2018. During those months I really focused on what I wanted my business to be, who I wanted to work with and the style I wanted to implement.

Not a week after I launched my redesigned website, Monica inquired about setting up an engagement session. Now this could have been a coincidence, but I kid you not, she was exactly what I wanted in a client! She checked all of the boxes. Beautiful of course, laid back, funny, intelligent, appreciative of art and the creative process, kind, true to herself and open minded. Her and Dave were amazing to work with, totally rocked their session and I enjoyed spending the hour with them. I secretly hoped they would call me to do their wedding photography as well. And guess what… they did! It really felt like it was all meant to be; they were dream clients that I adored working with from start to finish.

Check out some of my favorite shots from their engagement session last year!

I've never been very good at this.

Blogging! Ugh. Something I thought I'd love but it's been one of the hardest things for me to keep up with consistently. This space on my website has mostly been used for making various announcements about my business and posting client sneak peeks. But I think it's time that I start using it for its actual purpose. The problem I've run into is that I couldn't come up with enough photography related content to write about multiple times a week. I know this is definitely not uncommon within the photography community. At least I know I'm not alone!

But, lately I've been finding myself thinking about how nice it would be to have an outlet to blog about everyday life. I'm a mom of 2 boys who are ages 1 and 2. I've recently started a journey to a healthier me. My husband and I have a goal to do our first 5k and are going to start the Couch to 5k program very soon (eeee!). I love reading and talking about books...but my toddlers are terrible conversationalists! So anyway, there's a lot I find myself wanting to say and don't have anywhere to say it.

Then I had that ah-ha! moment. Which probably seems really obvious to everyone else. USE MY BLOG!

I am a photographer. People choose to hire ME. So why not let you get to know me? Yes, I'm a photographer but I'm also a daughter, sister, dog lover, business owner, constant dieter, homebody, pecan pie enthusiast, wife, and messy bun loving mom of 2.

I want you all to get to know me, the person behind the camera. It's so much more important to share my heart and soul than to share endless camera lens reviews.. you guys deserve to know who you're working with and I feel like I haven't given that opportunity enough. That changes now!

I want to keep a blog because sometimes a woman just needs to talk, share, encourage, vent, teach, learn, and reminisce. The days are long but the years are short and the moments are far too fleeting.

Don't worry, I'll still be post regularly about photography (this IS still a photography blog!) but I'm so excited to start sharing even MORE with all of you. I'm starting this new blogging chapter in my life because I want to give you the whole picture (pun intended, kind of).

I'd love to know some of your favorite bloggers so I can be sure to check them out too! This is a whole new world for me!

What I've Been Up To

Just a little bit about what I've been up to!

So I usually send my son Bennett to the sitter 2 days a week so I can focus entirely on my business for those 2 days. Sometimes it's shooting or editing a session, making phone calls or sending emails, designing products, meeting with clients for consultations or to place an order with the lab, writing blogs, posting sneak peeks, and then there's the paperwork, taxes, billing, and the list goes on. The point is...there is a lot involved in running a business! And now that I'm 30 weeks into a high risk pregnancy with baby number 2, I'm also having to go to doctors appointments every. single. week.

This week I sent my baby to daycare FOUR days in a row (this is the last day), and I miss him SO much. I can't wait to spend the whole day with him tomorrow! That being said, it's been really nice to have time to get some work accomplished. I want to thank my amazing clients for being patient with me while I've been working on their pictures.

I love that I have my own business and can (sometimes) work from home while I take care of Bennett. But it's just not realistic all the time.  My photography business is extremely important to me as well and I'm so proud of what I've built so far. I only want to continue improving in all aspects of what I do! It can be a balancing act, going between business owner and mommy, but it's one that is definitely worth it to me!
