Shannon + Shannon | Wapsipinicon River Family Session

Yes, you read that right. Shannon + Shannon. 🤍 They share a first name, and on this summer evening, they also had their whole crew together in one place, which is never an easy thing to coordinate!

Their family was spending time together at an Airbnb along the Wapsipinicon River in Eastern Iowa, which meant we didn't have to go far at all for their session. We simply stepped outside and used the property and river as our backdrop.

And the light definitely showed up for us! We had that beautiful, glowy summer evening light coming through the trees and plenty of room for everyone to spread out.

With a bigger family session, I always try to get a good mix while everyone is together. We photographed the whole crew, smaller family groupings, the kids, couples, and plenty of the moments that happened in between.

The timing also happened to line up with a big milestone for the littlest member of the family. Dalliah had just celebrated her first birthday with everyone before I arrived, so we made sure to get some photos of the birthday girl too!

Family photos don't always need a complicated plan or a special location. Sometimes everyone is already together, the backyard happens to be along the Wapsi, and that's more than enough.
