Caragan + Joe | An Evening at the Arboretum and Riverfront
Caragan and Joe’s engagement session ended up being one of those evenings that just kept getting better as we went. We started at the Bickelhaupt Arboretum, which is still a bit under construction right now, but honestly already looking really great. I’m excited to see what they continue to do with the space over the next couple years. Caragan also wanted to make sure we stopped by her grandma’s tree while we were there, which made that part of the session feel extra personal.
From there, we bounced around a few different spots near the Mississippi River and somehow ended up with the prettiest sunset at the end of the night. The river spots might’ve been my favorite part scenery-wise. Between the rocks, the water, and the colors in the sky, it was one of those backgrounds that doesn’t need much help from me.
These two were such a fun mix of playful and laid back. Nothing felt overly stiff or overly posed, which is honestly my favorite kind of session. Just good conversation, a lot of laughing, and a willingness to trust the process even when I’m out here saying things like “okay now walk toward me but like… casually.”
And of course, Winston made a few appearances too.
One thing I always tell people: bringing a friend or family member along when you want photos with your dog is SUCH a good idea. Huge shoutout to Kate for hanging out with Winston while we moved between spots and grabbed photos without him. It makes things so much smoother because you can include your dog in some photos without having to worry about where they’re tied up or sitting in the car between locations.
Caragan and Joe also did a quick outfit change near sunset, and I loved the direction it took the session. The dress and hat felt a little dressier without losing the relaxed vibe of the evening, and those sunset photos ended up feeling really carefree in the best way.
Honestly just a really solid night with really solid people, and I’m excited for these two heading into their wedding season.
