Spring Bloom Mini Sessions at Vander Veer in Davenport
There’s a short stretch of time each year when the Midwest finally remembers it has color.
Tulips show up all at once. Trees fill in. The parks start looking alive again.
For the past several years, I’ve held my spring mini sessions at the Arboretum in Clinton, which has always been a beautiful spot for them. But with construction happening there this year, I decided it might be the perfect excuse to switch things up.
So this year we’re heading to Vander Veer Botanical Park in Davenport.
I’ve photographed there many times over the years, and it’s one of my favorite parks in the Quad Cities. The flowers are vibrant and there are beautiful little pockets everywhere you turn.
Plus, many of my clients are already in the Quad Cities anyway. And for my Clinton families… well, I’ve learned most people don’t mind the short drive to Davenport. (Especially when you can stop at Costco to stock up on essentials while you’re there.)

Why Spring Sessions Work So Well
There’s something about spring photos that feels hopeful.
Maybe it’s the color after a long winter. Maybe it’s the light in the evenings. Or maybe it’s just that kids seem happier when they’re outside and not bundled in three layers.
Whatever the reason, these sessions always end up being some of my favorites from the year!
