Emma’s Studio Session + My Top Tips (P.S. A Summer Special Is Inside!)
There’s something powerful about stepping in front of the camera for a boudoir session. It’s not just about the images, it’s about taking up space, owning your story, and capturing a side of yourself that often goes unseen.
This week, I’m sharing a few tips for anyone thinking about booking a boudoir session, plus a look at a recent shoot with the lovely Emma (photos shared with her permission). Her session was soft, personal, and quietly stunning.
Emma kept things beautifully simple. She did her own makeup, chose subtle styling, and brought one meaningful personal touch: her significant other’s work shirt. I love when clients include an item that means something to them. It’s not just a cute photo, it tells a story.
Eight Boudoir Tips to Feel Confident and Comfortable
1. Glam or subtle, go with what makes you feel your best.
I personally love bold, dramatic makeup for boudoir. Hello lashes, contour, and smoky eyes! But Emma is proof that understated can be just as gorgeous. Whether you want to go full glam or soft and natural, there’s no wrong way to show up.
2. Personal touches go a long way.
Meaningful details can elevate your session. A favorite shirt, a piece of jewelry, a book, or something from your partner (like the work shirt Emma brought) adds intimacy and storytelling to your images.
3. You don’t need to know how to pose.
That’s what I’m here for! I’ll guide you through every pose, every shift, every frame. So you can relax, trust the process, and enjoy the experience.
4. You don’t have to be celebrating anything to deserve this.
You don’t need a reason. You just need a moment. Whether you’re marking a milestone, stepping into a new season, or simply want to see yourself in a different light…this is for you.
5. Prep how you want, no pressure.
Hair, nails, and skincare are totally optional. If a fresh blowout or manicure makes you feel amazing, go for it! If not, that’s okay too. Hydrated skin and a swipe of lip balm go a long way.
6. Music helps set the vibe.
I’ll always have a playlist ready to keep things fun and relaxed, but you’re more than welcome to request your favorite power ballads, breakup anthems, or feel-good jams. Music makes the whole experience more fun and way less awkward.
7. Bring options and don't overthink them.
We’ll usually have time for two outfits, but you can bring a few extra in case inspiration strikes. Think textures—lace, silk, knits—and don’t underestimate the power of a cozy robe or oversized shirt (especially in the beginning).
8. Every body is a boudoir body.
Boudoir isn’t about size, shape, or age. It’s about presence, emotion, and capturing something real. You don’t need to “get ready” for a session. You already are.
